These tribal craftsmen are converting weeds into furniture.

Men and women belonging to the Soliga tribe in Anehole earn part of their livelihood by de-weeding plants and making furniture out of them. The raw material used for the furniture is a fast growing forest weed called ‘Lantana’ that chokes other plants. It takes several hours for the forest department to clear out these weeds.

Tribal craftsmen are making sofa sets, beds, swings, teapoys, shelves and other standard products with this plant  the wood has a slight natural polish and doesn’t require any finishing touches.

A hand-crafted win-win situation, this!
