It seems like there is no end to new initiatives by Indian Railways to improve service and travel. Apart from this, the Railway Minister himself is active on social media, quickly addressing people’s queries and solving problems faced by passengers.

If you plan to travel by train in the next few months, you’re in for a pleasant surprise.

Here’s a list of 7 dynamic changes the Railways have planned to make your journey truly world class:

Rajdhani ticket not confirmed? Just fly with Air India

If your Rajdhani ticket is not confirmed, then you will have the option to fly with Air India to the same destination. While the fares for the flights will be the same as AC first class, AC II and AC III passengers would pay an additional Rs.1500 to get flight tickets. IRCTC has collaborated with Air India for this purpose.

Refund on cancellation of Tatkal tickets

From June 1 onwards, you will get 50% refund on the cancellation of Tatkal tickets. Also, the timing for booking Tatkal tickets will be changed. The Tatkal window will be open between 10 am and 11 am, while the timing for sleeper coach ticketing will be 11 am to 12 noon.

More coaches for Rajdhani and Shatabdi

The number of coaches in Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express has been increased by Indian Railways to accommodate more passengers. In addition, mobile-tickets will also be valid and it will not be compulsory to carry hard copies of the tickets.

Tickets in regional language

Online booking services will now be available in several regional languages as well.

No extra charge on debit card and credit card transactions

From June 1, passengers booking tickets at reservation counters with debit and credit cards will not have to pay Rs. 30 extra, which was the case earlier.

Executive lounges at railway stations

The first executive lounge, recently inaugurated at New Delhi railway station, is fully equipped with TV, AC and WiFi. The interiors are great looking too! Passengers will have to pay Rs.100 per hour in order to enjoy this airport-like lounge. Coming soon – lounges in Agra and Jaipur as well.

Wake Up Passenger!

You need no longer be afraid of missing the station of your destination because you overslept. There will be a wake-up call facility on many trains.
