In His Letter to IOA, Sachin Tendulkar Shows What True Sportsmanship Is

Sachin Tendulkar's letter to the Indian Olympics Association accepting its request to be India's goodwill ambassador for the Rio Olympics sends out a strong, inspirational message.

Sachin Tendulkar is the most appropriate ambassador to represent India at the Rio Olympics. His sporting career makes him a legend, he’s known worldwide as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, and he is admired and loved by millions worldwide.

On April 29, the Indian Olympics Association sent an invitation to Tendulkar, asking him to represent India as its goodwill ambassador for the Rio Olympics. Tendulkar accepted the invitation. He will accompany Salman Khan and shooter Abhinav Bindra, the other two ambassadors.

In his letter to IOA, put up on the IOA Twitter handle, Tendulkar shows his support to the champions who have qualified for the Olympics this year.

He says, specifically, that we need to be aware of the struggles of a sportsperson – especially an upcoming one – in India, where there is hardly any media or financial attention given to sports other than cricket.

With the Rio Olympics just two more months away, Indian sportsmen and sportswomen do need that bit of encouragement, and there’s no one more inspirational than Sachin Tendulkar to lead the campaign to get them the recognition they so richly deserve.
