This 2nd Grader Displayed His Robots at a College-Level Science Event. And Wowed Everyone!

Saarang displayed a cleaning robot, a robotic hand, and a walking stick for the visually impaired.

Saarang Sumesh, a class 2 student from Kochi, participated in a science exhibition – TECH FOSS 2K16 – and got to display his models alongside those of engineering and technology graduates.

The event was jointly organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) and the Computer Society of India, in association with the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Centre of the Institute.

People at the event were surprised to see this young boy with his models. Many were also impressed by his explanations.

“Saarang left us surprised even with his presentation skills. He not only displayed the uses of the robots but explained how he made them. He has made the robots using a Lego Robotic Kit,” TIST principal Dr. D. Vincent H. Wilson told The New Indian Express.

According to reports, Saarang had programmed his cleaning bot to work autonomously. For his next project, he will take up Sumo-fighting robots.

This seven-year-old has already made other models like autorickshaw robot, a humanoid that can fire bullets, and a Lego calculator.

At TECH FOSS 2K16, as many as  25 projects were displayed by engineering and polytechnic students. The organisers conducted a hands-on workshop on Android and Arduino for the participants. The event also had an Olympiad, a gaming contest, a hardware project competition, an ‘app idea’ contest, etc.

But Saarang’s creations were probably the highlight of the event. Good luck, Saarang. May you continue to soar.
