These Russians Ice Skated to a Bollywood Number at a World Championship & Walked Away with Gold

Russian figure skating pair Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov made a spectacular entry at the 2016 European Figure Skating Championships in Slovakia, by picking a Bollywood song for the event.

Viewers were in for a treat, as the pair swayed and grooved to the beats of ‘Nagada Sang Dhol’ from the movie Ram Leela. Tatiana wore an embellished green choli and dupatta, along with Indian jewellery, and just stunned the crowd with her moves. Maxim, who wore a simple white kurta-pyjama ensemble, was equally good.

The audience broke into applause in the middle of the performance.

The pair managed to impress the judges as well. They won the competition and walked away with the gold medal.

“It was a very hard start to the day. We had an early practice, then we stayed here in the rink before the free program because we had no time to go to the hotel. Most importantly, we won and we finished our programme. We lost some levels having some little mistakes. But, by the way, with all the problems we had before, I think this was quite a good programme for us,” said Maxim to First Post.

However, this is not the first time that a Bollywood number was used by skaters. In 2010, Meryl Davis and Charlie White got noticed for their act featuring a medley of Bollywood songs including ‘Kajra Re’ and ‘Dhola Re Dhola’.

Watch the two-time Olympic champions Tatiana and Maxim give a brilliant performance here.
