Whimsical Motifs by Italian Artist Lift the Spirits of Delhi Metro Commuters

Tigers, treetops and a girl with flowing tresses — all these and more greet commuters embarking on trains at the Govindpuri Metro Station in Delhi these days.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and St+Art India Foundation, a non-profit organisation promoting street art, are responsible for making this uplifting sight possible.

The man behind the colourful makeover is artist Agostino Iacurci from Rome.

Agostino has transformed the face of this dreary grey metro station that lies between Kalkaji Mandir and Okhla stations on the Violet Line.

St+Art India has taken on the responsibility of maintaining the artwork for the next 5 years.

Delhi Metro uses many of its stations for the promotion of art and culture. Apart from having a museum inside the Patel Chowk station, it has put up decorative panels and other interesting art installations at the Mandi House, Janpath, ITO, Udyog Bhawan, and INA stations.

DMRC says this beautification initiative will carry over to other metro stations in Delhi and those too will be revamped.
