This January 26th, India’s 67th Republic Day, the Gujarat government will be celebrating in a very special way.
The theme for this year’s school celebrations is “Beti ko Salam, Desh ke Naam”.
On the morning of January 26th, the national flag will be hoisted in government schools by the most educated girl in every village.

A circular has been issued to all government schools and district primary education officers (DPEOs) in the state asking them to comply with this initiative.
The other way in which the government is celebrating its girls is by honouring parents of daughters born in 2016 in the days leading up to Republic Day. Each school that takes part in this program will be given Rs. 300 by the state government.
