When a 3-Year-Old Street Kid Went Missing, Delhi Cops Worked All Night to Rescue Her

Cops in Delhi demonstrated their absolute dedication to duty after they carried out an all-night operation to rescue a girl who had been kidnapped.

A 3-year-old girl went missing from Connaught Place on Tuesday evening. The beat constable came to know about this when the child’s mother, a mentally challenged and homeless woman, started crying loudly for her daughter at around 5 pm. She was saying “meri beti, meri beti (my daughter)”.

The constable informed the SHO (Connaught Place), Mukesh Walia, and they immediately began the search operation.

Without any delay, the police registered an FIR even though the mother was unable to give a statement. Mukesh Walia and his team got to work and they began by interrogating the shopkeepers near the temple where the girl was last seen. They formed six teams and went out to search different areas. One of the teams was talking to passers-by who might have noticed the girl, so they could describe what she looked like. And the beat cops started searching all night shelters and roadside dwellers. According to Joint Commissioner, M K Meena, it was at midnight that a beggar at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib informed the cops that he had seen a hooded man with a kid earlier.

With that information, the search team reached the residence of a 23-year-old man named Tarzan, who later turned out to be the kidnapper. His residence was in Mandawali, East Delhi. The place was vacant but they found his PAN card and circulated his picture on WhatsApp among other officials. Investigation about Tarzan revealed that he used to live in a night shelter at Dwarka earlier, and later took a place in Badarpur. After being turned out from both these places, he had shifted to Raghubir Nagar. Following all the leads, the cops finally located his hideout. The door was locked and on breaking in, they found the girl inside.

She was taken to the hospital and the accused was later found sleeping on top of a water tank in the same area. He was allegedly planning to assault her before selling her to a trafficker.

Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deepak Mishra and M K Meena praised the efforts of this team and will announce a reward for them. The girl was presented before the juvenile board and the government will now deposit Rs. 3,500 per month in an account in her name till she is 18. Currently, she has been moved to a kids’ shelter and her mother has been admitted at Institute Of Human Behaviour And Allied Sciences for treatment.
