In a passenger friendly move, Indian Railway will now allow ticket bookings 30 minutes prior to the departure of a train. The move will not just enable passengers to travel in emergency situations and be better informed but also eliminate illegal ticketing activities.

Passengers can book tickets online and also at the reservation counters, subject to the availability of berths, even after the first chart has been prepared.
The new rule comes into action today.
This facility will not just give passengers an opportunity to make last minute travel plans and be better informed but will also ensure optimum utilization of the available accommodation in trains.
The step is also expected to reduce the delay in finalization of reservation charts, which is often linked with illegal ticketing activities.
