In a First, All-Women Teams to Head 7 Polling Booths in Bihar

Seven polling booths in Gaya will be headed by all-women teams during assembly elections this time. From the booth in charge, to the web cam-operator, every official will be a woman. 

Women government servants were often exempted from polling station duties and have mostly been asked to do secretarial work, until now, in Bihar. But, in a first of its kind move, polling booths in Gaya will be run by all-women teams this election.

Seven polling stations in the city have been selected to be headed by all-women teams on October 16, in the Assembly elections. Four of these polling stations will be set up in Gaya College while other three would be located in Mahavir Inter College.

From presiding officers and polling officers to other support staff such as micro-observers and webcam operators, all the officials at these polling stations will be women.

Not only this, women personnel have been requested from the Central forces, who will provide security cover for the polling booths. Fifty women who have come forward to take up the task are being given intensive training.

The decision required a special approval from the Election Commission of India since the allotment of duties had to be done from the volunteers unlike other poll booths that follow the computerised system of duty allocation.
