MP will host the world’s largest solar power station which is expected to come up in Rewa district by March 2017.
Madhya Pradesh will soon be home to the world’s largest solar power station, which is expected to generate solar energy by March 2017. Madhya Pradesh’s Energy Minister, Rajendra Shukla announced that the 750 Mega Watts (MW) power station will be constructed in Gudh area of Rewa district.
This project is being referred to as the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar project.

It is a combined effort of Solar Energy Corporation of India and MP Urja Vikas Nigam. Both the parties have 50 percent stake in the joint venture.
Presently, the world’s largest solar power project is the Ivanpah Solar Power Facility of 392 MW. It is located in Mojave deserts of California, United States and got completed in February 2014. 1MW power generation needs two hectares tract of land and the cost of it comes to around Rs. 7.6 crore. According to the minister, this one will be set up on a barren government land.
“Global tenders for commissioning the solar power station in an area over 1,500 hectares at Bandwar region in Gudh tehsil of Rewa, will be invited shortly,” said Mr Shukla to PTI.
