Want Votes? Then Fix Our Roads, Say Bengalureans!

A Bengaluru art teacher has come up with an innovative social awareness campaign to awaken apathetic civic authorities to problems faced by ordinary citizens.

Vidhya Shree, a 23-year-old art teacher at Presidency College and resident of Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bangalore, was tired of watching BBMP authorities canvass door-to-door for votes, even as her neighbourhood’s civic problems remained unresolved.

She came up with the idea of having citizens hold up “No Road, No Vote” placards at different locations in her area, a clear warning to apathetic officials who take their votes for granted after the polls.

The “No Road, No Vote” campaign is now gaining traction in a city that is slowly becoming famous around the country for its traffic jams and potholed streets.

Some residents of Rajarajeshwari Nagar are even displaying the “No Road, No Vote” sign in front of their homes now.

Members of the Art Club in the locality are helping by designing the placards. Professional architects Apar Aggarwal, Ganesh Chidhambaranath Nihal, Chandru, and Ashish Bhansal are also participating in the effort.
