Indian Railways Introduces e-Booking of Wheelchairs

Train passengers can now book a wheelchair online, through IRCTC. The service is available for free at the New Delhi station and is introduced for sick, elderly and differently-abled people.
With the help of an interesting and thoughtful move by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), passengers can now book free wheelchairs, online, for use at the New Delhi station.
The facility is to make travelling easier for the old, sick and differently-abled people. Wheelchairs can be booked while booking the tickets online.

The service has been kick-started at the New Delhi station. Once the pilot project is successful, it will be further extended to other stations as well.
The wheelchairs can be booked for maximum one hour. Users can avail of the facility after depositing ID cards like Aadhar card, voter ID card, etc. along with a refundable fee of Rs. 500.
Currently, nine wheelchairs are available and there is no age limit for booking. Anyone with a confirmed reservation can use the service.
In addition to the online booking facility, wheelchairs can also be booked from IRCTC’s Tourism Facilitation Centre, which is located on platform number 16 of New Delhi station.
