This Independence Day, the Women and Child Welfare Department in Chitradurga district of Karnataka is taking a remarkable step for the welfare of people living with physical disabilities in the region.

As a part of the celebration, the MLAs and MP in the district are releasing funds with which the department will be distributing over 100 three-wheeler scooters to people with disabilities who are eligible for this initiative.

Here is what the preparations uptil now look like:

  • 62 scooters will be distributed in Chitradurga by MP B.N. Chandrappa using the MP Local Area Development Fund (MPLAD).
  • 16 scooters will be distributed in the Challakere taluk utilising MLA T. Raghumurthy’s funds.
  • 2 scooters in the Hiriyur taluk using the MLA D. Sudhakar’s funds.
  • 3 scooters will be distributed by MLC Jayamma Balraj.

Other than this, Minister for Social Welfare and district in-charge, H. Anjaneya and other MLAs will be distributing 20 more scooters.

The process of purchasing these scooters through e-tendering has begun. Each scooter costs Rs. 67,999, and the names of the beneficiaries will be finalised by a committee headed by the District Surgeon, Deputy Commissioner, Zilla Panchayat CEO, and Deputy Director for Women and Child Welfare Department. These beneficiaries will be people with more than 70 percent disabilities. The committee has also appealed the Regional Transport Office (RTO) authorities to provide the required documents with respect to the vehicles.

This is welcome step and shows the involvement of the MP and MLAs in the district in their work towards the well being of the people there.
