A 248-page comic book honouring the 21 awardees of Param Vir Chakra will be released this week. The book is the result of combined efforts by the Indian Army and Amar Chitra Katha Pvt. Ltd.

Independence day is just around the corner and Amar Chitra Katha Pvt. Ltd.(ACK) has come up with a great way to celebrate it. Widely known some of India’s largest selling comic books Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle, they are now all set to release a comic book based on the life of the 21 awardees of the Param Vir Chakra.

The title of the comic is ‘Param Vir Charka‘ and it will be a 248-page tribute to the brave soldiers who fought for the nation, highlighting their lives, and their courageous sacrifice.

The lives of all the 21 men will be covered in the book, right from their childhood to the wars that they were a part of. These will include the Kashmir Operations in 1947-48, India-China War in 1962, Indo-Pakistan wars in 1965 and 1971 and the Kargil conflict of 1999. Three of the 21 soldiers are alive today.

“Param Vir Chakra is true to the Amar Chitra Katha’s philosophy of presenting best of Indian heritage. It is one of the important aspects of modern India’s military heritage where soldiers have gone out to defend our country. The interesting part about this comic is that it’s the first time that ACK has done a story on living legends who have contributed immensely towards saving the nation from exterior forces,” ACK Media – Publishing CEO, Manas Mohan was quoted saying here.

The scripting, art and completion of the book took about one and a half years. There were 11 artists, 5 script writers and 6 colourists working on it. The project is an effort of ACK along with Indian Army.

The original story writer, Vaneeta Vaid, was in constant touch with the army for documents and facts.

The book will cost Rs. 299, and will be available in both print and digital media. From the life of Naib Subedar Bana Singh, who had captured a post in Siachen at a height of 20,000-ft in 1987, to the life of Captain Vikram Batra, it will cover it all.

Happy reading on this Independence Day!
