Good News for Moms: Women Employees in J&K can now avail of a 2-Year Child Care Leave

Women employees in Jammu and Kashmir can now avail of a child care leave of maximum 730 days. They will receive a leave salary equal to what they had been drawing immediately before taking the leave. 

On Thursday, July 23, the state government approved a Child Care leave for women employees for a period of two years to look after their children. The Finance Department, after approval from Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has issued a notification incorporating the child care leave in the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Leave) Rules.

As per the notification, a woman employee can now avail a maximum period of 730 days of child care leave during her entire service, for taking care of her two eldest children.

The leave can be taken any time during the service to take care of children’s education, illness and other similar requirements. However, the child care leave cannot be combined with any other leave.

During the period of child care leave, the employee will be paid a leave salary equal to what she had been receiving immediately before the leave.

The child care leaves can be ideally availed by those employees who have completed their probation period, but in certain extreme cases, leaves can be granted to women during their probation period too.
