How does palm oil harm the planet?
Huge areas of forested lands are bulldozed to make a place for palm oil plantations. Indonesia, a leading producer, has lost over 25 million hectares of forests for the cultivation of palm. This massive deforestation happened between 2001 and 2018. In the same time frame, 100,000 orangutans have lost their habitat, thanks to palm oil production. Add to that the fact that palm trees promote monoculture whereas forests thrive only with dynamic biodiversity.
Rejecting products made from palm oil can bring this rapid deforestation under control.
