With Operation Muskan, 91 Child Labourers were Rescued in Odisha

As part of Operation Muskan, 91 kids working as child labourers were rescued. They were working in many dangerous units which have been declared hazardous by the law.

In Ganjam district of Odisha, 91 kids were working as child labourers at different places including many hazardous factories like cashew processing units. These children saw a bright day on Saturday when the police finally rescued them.

As part of Operation Muskan, a sudden raid was conducted on hotels, garages, shops and cashew processing units in the district and 80 boys and 11 girls were rescued, claimed the police on Monday.

The rescued children are in the age group of 12 to 17. Out of the 91 kids, 13 were found working in cashew processing units. These units are extremely dangerous and are categorised as hazardous under Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986.

The police informed that they have registered two separate cases against the owners of these units and further investigation is being done on the circumstances under which they were employed and whether they were kept as bonded labourers.

All the rescued children have been currently sent to an NGO, Childline, which will present them in front of the district child welfare committee (CWC) soon, and will later hand them over to their parents.

A similar rescue operation was conducted earlier last month in the state where 22 children were rescued from sugarcane producing units.

With the current success of rescue operations, we see a silver lining and hope to see kids attending schools rather than working in these dangerous units.
