Bengaluru Teens Spend Pocket Money to Plant Saplings Every Month

While growing up, pocket money holds an important place in our lives. This is “our” money, which most of us spend in doing and buying things that we like. A couple of outings with our friends, buying new clothes or spending it on that new video game that we always wanted – there are so many things that we want to do with our little pocket money.

But this group of 28 teens from Bengaluru decided to put their money to better use by planting saplings across the city.

They have proved that you don’t need big bucks to spend on a good cause.

These students of Vijaya PU College will be planting 30 saplings every month and they have set up an organization, Vanya, with an objective to save the planet in their own way.

The idea to start Vanya struck when one of the students visited Bugle Rock, Basavanagudi, with friends. Instead of feeling happy and enjoying the fun filled day, they felt incomplete and decided to do something for humanity.

Since then, the Vanya team has been planting trees. They pitch in Rs.30 to Rs.100 to buy seeds from Kengeri and then go about planting them, watering them and taking care of them on a regular basis.

They  have already planted 35 trees in Basavanagudi, Vijaya College campus and Netkallappa Circle. After seeing the good response from residents, they now plan to expand their initiative and have been invited at various locations to plant trees.

Our best wishes to the young team who is setting a great example for the younger generation.
