Are never-ending queues at toll booths the cause of your woes? The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) is making lives easier by making FASTags mandatory for toll payments on all national highways.
FASTags are prepaid rechargeable tags/stickers, to be fixed on the windscreen of your vehicle. It allows automatic payment deduction at toll plazas using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology from the bank account/prepaid wallet linked to the activated FASTag.
Buy and activate a FASTag for your vehicle in these simple steps:
Where to buy your FASTag?
Option A to activate: Do It Yourself
If you are a DIY enthusiast, you can buy your FASTag from Amazon. Download the ‘My FASTag’ mobile app from the Google Play Store for your Android phone or the ‘Apple Store’ for your iPhone. Enter your vehicle details and select your payment method.
You can link the FASTag with one of your existing bank accounts or use the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) Prepaid wallet in the My FASTag mobile app.
Option B: Activate using Paytm
Order your FASTag on PayTM. Upload photos of your vehicle registration number and Registration Certificate (RC). When it is delivered on your doorstep, keep your original identity and address proof documents handy for verification.
Option C: Activate at the nearest certified bank branch
You can also buy a FASTag by visiting the nearest certified bank branch and get it linked with your existing bank account. Submit the KYC (Know Your Customer) documentation as per your bank’s KYC policy, your vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC) and application.
How to fix the FASTag?
Remove the adhesive liner from the sticker. Stick the FasTag close to the top middle of the windshield from inside the vehicle or behind the rearview mirror. Keep the adhesive side of the FasTag sticker facing outside.
Once stuck, don’t remove or reposition it.
How to recharge FASTag?
Wallet Payment: You can recharge the prepaid wallet via UPI/debit card/ credit card/ NEFT/ Net Banking.
Paytm: You need to add money to your Paytm Wallet and the FASTag subwallet that is created after activation will automatically reserve an amount from it based upon your requirement.
If the FASTag is already linked with your bank account, you have absolutely nothing to do to recharge it. The amount will be directly deducted from the linked bank account. Just ensure your FASTag-linked bank account has sufficient balance.
I applied for a FASTag for my car using PayTm through a simple and quick process. I can’t wait for it to be delivered to my home and use it! I am excited that we won’t have to hunt for exact change each time we cross a toll booth because the amount will be deducted automatically through our chosen wallet. This saves us hassle and precious time. Consequently, we won’t have to feel guilty on reading the posters about the lost man hours on toll booths.
