Handmade by an Engineer Mom for Her Baby, These Soaps Are Just What Your Skin Needs

"I was always conscious about buying natural products, even for myself. When I had two kids to take care of, there was absolutely no way I would compromise on that. All this came together in a perfect symphony to help me start Mist & Dew."

Handmade by an Engineer Mom for Her Baby, These Soaps Are Just What Your Skin Needs

In 2016, Ankita Goel gave birth to a healthy baby boy, and soon, the IT professional decided to resign from her job as she had two young ones to take care of.

Her focus was on getting only the best quality products, and while that was easy with diapers and toys, what about soaps and creams? How could she trust the several chemicals in commercial brands to take care of her baby’s delicate skin?

“I sent out requests and put up posts on social media, asking mothers to recommend skincare products that were free of harmful chemicals. But to no avail. No one could give me a satisfactory answer. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands,” shares Ankita.

An engineer, a mom and an ecopreneur!

Ankita is an electrical engineer and an MBA. She mentions that while she has always been conscious about taking care of herself, her priorities shifted with the birth of her second child.

“After my son’s birth, I became extra cautious and uncompromising. This awareness about chemicals, my engineering degree and my passion fueled by maternal instincts all came together in a perfect symphony to help me start Mist and Dew,” she says about her venture.

In 2016, the same year that her younger son was born, she started attending professional workshops to learn the art of making soaps, creams, lotions and more.

The following year would be invested in researching and learning, and Ankita formally launched her company in 2018.

Skincare products that are Handmade with love:

handmade soaps

Ankita starts making batches of her soaps and creams during the first week of every month and prepares 25 varieties of both.

“I make them in batches of 4 kg (cream) and 3 kg (soap) at one go. They are then distributed in different packages. Of course, if there is an urgent order, I put aside these preparations and focus on that instead,” she explains, adding that she has no team but the complete support of her family.

That keeps her going.

From family to customers, everyone loves these soaps!

Ankita shares that her family has given up all commercial products now that her brand is such a hit.

“We had some commercial products when I had just started the brand, but eventually, they were thrown away. My extended family and friends all purchase Mist and Dew products only,” she says, adding that once you use chemical-free products, you can’t go back.

In her experience (and I concur) after you bathe with a regular soap that has paraben and sulphate, you feel the need to moisturise your skin.

“This is the main difference between commercial skincare products and natural handmade soaps. The latter has natural oils to keep your skin moisturised. It will take you just a few days to notice the difference,” Ankita says.

One of her clients, a young mother who had skin pigmentation, has a review to share. Within a month of trading commercial soaps for one of Mist & Dew, she noticed a positive difference. Soon, all her friends and family were complimenting her healthy skin. Now that is a soap with a difference!
