How do you maintain iron utensils?
Cleaning iron tawa, pans or skillets right after you’re done cooking will make your work super easy. Make sure you don’t soak the utensils in water because that will put them at the risk of rusting. Gently scrub the pans with a sponge while it is still warm with a gentle flow of water. Do not use any soap or dishwasher. If some stubborn food bits still remain, scrub them off with a mix of salt and water or soak the pan briefly in boiling water.
After cleaning the skillet, it’s important to dry it well so as to prevent any rusting. Wipe with a soft cotton cloth or simply let the tawa warm on the stove again until all the water evaporates. Rub a few drops of vegetable oil and the pan will be clean and smooth for reuse.

Does vinegar remove rust from cast iron?
Soak the rusted iron skillet in equal parts of vinegar and water. You may have to soak the utensils for an hour or overnight, depending on how bad the rust is. But there are quicker ways of cleaning the rust too.
One of them is rubbing tamarind or lemon on the affected areas and letting it sit for about an hour. If the rust is very light, simply sprinkling some baking soda and scrubbing the area should work.

How do you clean badly tarnished brass?
For regular use, you can simply use water and a mild detergent to clean the pots. Use a toothbrush to scrub the affected areas and a soft cotton cloth to wipe it clean. In cases where the brass is tarnished, a paste of flour, salt and vinegar can do the trick.
Take half a cup of vinegar and stir in 1 teaspoon of salt. Once the salt dissolves, add flour to the mixture until it forms a paste. Rub this paste on the affected brass and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and wipe dry with a soft cloth.
