A few days before Father’s day, I start trawling through websites and inquiring at shops for something different, something unconventional that baba will appreciate. I know exactly what he likes—football, Telugu films dubbed in Hindi and Kishore Kumar songs are his jam.
But when it comes to gifting, I am clueless.
Wallets, perfumes, belts and ties have become so passe that I cannot even bother considering them as gift options for someone I love deeply. What I gift baba should be reflective of his personality, his passions, and what he means to me.
If this Father’s Day, you are also looking for unique presents to convey your appreciation to your baba, appa, abba, pitaji or dad, here are some options we recommend. Each of our suggestions has a positive impact on the environment, give a boost to the local artisans and even support the underprivileged.
So, go for these suggestions for your one-of-a-kind, responsible father with an eye for the unconventional!
Apparel for the father who wears his trademark fashion.
Does your father prefer a printed T-shirt or a plain shirt? This year, forget the mass-produced clothes and instead, go for those that have a minimum impact on the environment. Made from sustainable material like hemp or bamboo, this topwear is as eco-friendly as it is comfortable to wear. The material used to make the shirt costs the environment less than virgin cotton in terms of water and mineral consumption. But they offer the same comfort, if not more, to the skin.
Desk organisers to declutter the work-desk
A well-kept desk is a sign of an organised mind. Your hard-working father deserves a chic desk where all the necessary belongings can be arranged efficiently. This Father’s Day, gift him a pen-holder that is not only stylish but also very eco-friendly.
Made from bamboo, this pen-holder is sturdy, lightweight and can hold two pens as well as visiting cards.
Eco-friendly pens for a dad who loves to write
Baba is not a writer, but he can never get tired of signing his name, writing to-do lists or reminders for us. And he is quite fond of uniquely-designed pens. If you can relate to this, perhaps this year you could go the green way and gift your dad an eco-friendly pen and diary to note down his thoughts, his endless lists or his accounts.
Responsible grooming for a responsible father
Gift your father the luxury of responsible grooming. Whether it is a wonderful-smelling handmade soap or beard oil to tame his mane, you could never go wrong with responsible grooming products.
Shop for handmade soaps here and for beard balm and beard oil or hair wax here.
Gift options for a dad who likes to tinker
“Switch off the lights, the bill is skyrocketing!” “Go to the bathroom and turn off the tap. You’ll flood the house.” The one person concerned about wasting water and electricity in my family is my father. And this almost always translates to him fidgeting with taps and searching for ways to reduce our usage of electricity. Relatable? You could check out these showerheads that save water. If he likes home projects, he is sure to love them!
A couple of biscuits with his morning tea, a plateful of snacks in the evening and some sweets after dinner as dessert—if your father is fond of nibbles and you are concerned about his health, then go for these healthy alternatives. From jowar puffs to cookies, we have a wide range of snacks that would not risk his health. Affordable, healthy and delicious, you could help him make a better choice of food this Father’s Day. Check them out here.
Unconventional options for conventional gifts
Still feel wallets and deodorants are the perfect gifts this Father’s Day? Check out our range of eco-friendly options that will add a touch of uniqueness to the tried-and-tested gifts. We have a variety of upcycled tyre wallets as well as stylish cork coin wallets. Check them out here.
Once a year, we get this occasion to celebrate our fathers for the love, support and strength they give us. The fact that they never let us see the efforts that go behind the scenes is something we can never repay. This year, take this opportunity to celebrate this wonderful love in an eco-friendly, responsible manner.
