Manipur’s ‘Miracle’ IAS Officer Wins Hearts Again, Comes to the Rescue of Poor Mizoram Boy!

IAS officer Armstrong Pame, the district collector of the Tamengong district in Manipur, has made news for all the right reasons quite a few times.

In 2012, he built a 100 km road connecting Manipur, Nagaland and Assam without any financial aid from the government. You can read about this ‘People’s road’ here.

In 2017, he began the initiative of inviting school students to his house every Friday for dinner. The ‘Miracle Man’ as he is fondly referred to, wanted to listen to their dreams and visions and have them express their desire about how they wished to see the district in future days to come.

Now, the IAS officer is in the news again for helping an 11-year-old boy from Mizoram.

Pame was appointed as an Election Observer in the Lunglei district of Mizoram. Here, he met Lalrindika, a young boy born with a cleft palate. Lalrindika hails from the remote village of Zehtat, and his family is not very well off. Therefore, it was impossible for his parents to finance the cleft palate repair surgery.

As soon as Pame discovered this, he offered financial help to Lalrindika’s parents, and he didn’t stop there. When he found out that the family could not afford to travel all the way to Imphal, where the surgery would take place, he took care of the travel expenses till Lunglei, where he was stationed.

From there, the father and son travelled in the district collector’s vehicle. He also ensured that his team received the duo at Imphal and accompanied them to the hospital.

Lalrindika’s surgery was a success, and speaking to the New Indian Express, his father said, “We will forever remain indebted to him (Pame). We feel he was sent to us by God.”

For his marvellous initiatives and work in the civil services, Armstrong Pame was nominated as Indian of the Year Award in the Public Service Category by CNN-IBN back in 2012. In 2015, he was awarded as “India’s Most Eminent IAS Officer.” He even made it to the list of the 100 most influential future leaders this year.

The consistency of Pame’s work on both the professional and personal fronts is proof that the recognition and love he receives from the masses is well-deserved.
