Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir won several hearts on the internet as he attended the inauguration of the seventh edition of Hijra Habba in New Delhi.

Before you ask what is so extraordinary about him attending an event? Let us tell you that the left-handed batsman donned a dupatta and a bindi to show his support to the transgender community.

The event was held in celebration of the Supreme Court’s historic verdict to scrap Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that criminalised gay sex in India. The order was passed on September 6, 2018. (To know more, click here).

The annual Hijra Habba was hosted at a Delhi Mall on Tuesday by the HIV/AIDS Alliance India where individuals from the transgender community came together. The theme for the event this year was ‘Born This Way’. It aimed to spread the message of acceptance of the trans community and empower them to fight against social injustices unitedly.

The idea was also to educate the community about their talents and their potential to contribute to the country in various fields.

Twitteratis lauded the man’s brilliant gesture. While one user said, “It takes courage to do such a thing,” another one said, “He surprises me every time! So much respect for this ‘MAN’❤”.

Whether it is his humility to accept why he stepped down as the captain of the Delhi Daredevils IPL team or his will to stand up for what is right, Gautam Gambhir has given Indians yet another reason to love him. Gender is only a spectrum, after all.
