Orphaned as a Child, Today She Is the Best Cadet in Kerala’s 1st All-Woman Police Battalion!

Among the first all-woman police battalion of Kerala that passed out on July 31, one woman who outshone everyone else was KT Ajitha, a resident of Panangad.

Beating 578 other cadets, the young woman was awarded the Chief Minister’s Best Cadet Trophy which was presented to her by CM Pinarayi Vijayan last week. What makes her achievements genuinely noteworthy is that she is also part of 44-member women’s commando force—a first in the state.

The only daughter of Parameswaran and Rajamma, both of whom are deceased, Ajitha was raised by her uncle, Maheendran, who is a loading labourer in Madavana.

Maheendran ensured that Ajitha never felt the lack of parental figures, and was well provided for. Ajitha grew up to be a confident woman who faced all of life’s obstacles with grit and determination.

Maybe that’s why when she received the trophy, no one was more proud or delighted than Ajitha herself, because she had come this far, without giving up when the going got tough.

Ajitha was part of the team that underwent rigorous training for a period of nine months. The training included swimming lessons, along with specialised training on cyber crimes and how to effectively tackle these.

These were effectively held by assistant director PS Gopi, SP Reji Jacob, and police science assistant director KK Aji, under the supervision of DIG Anoop Kuruvila John and with instructions from Dr B Sandhy, the ADGP (Additional Director General of Police).

The all-women commando force was also intensively trained in modern weaponry including the AK-47 as well as night firing, to the extent that they are now well-equipped to ready a gun in 45 seconds, that too with blindfolds on as well as rescue a kidnapped person by barging into a building.

The women were also given training in kalarippayattu, karate, firing, weapons, swimming, yoga, driving, computers, soft skills, forest operations and handling issues of women, children and the transgender community.
