A female elephant calf strayed away from a herd in the forests of Haridwar, Uttarakhand and fell into a ditch. The loose soil in the ditch trapped her, and the young one was unable to set herself free. Scared and lost, she started crying in anguish.
A few villagers heard her cries and immediately knew that something was wrong. They reached the ditch and after assessing the situation, called up the Uttarakhand forest department, for professional help.
The calf was stuck in such a manner that the forest department officials had to dig around it to remove the soil. After the initial manual digging, the officials called in a JCB for further assistance. All this while, the elephant seemed distressed, scared about what was going on.
