Brave Bengaluru Woman Thrashes Drunk Molester, Hands Him over to Cops

25-year-old Pooja (name changed to protect identity) stepped out of her PG accommodation in Bengaluru to enjoy a walk in the pleasant weather. It was 9.15 in the evening, and the cool breeze was just too pleasant to sit indoors. She hadn’t anticipated what a short walk in her neighbourhood would lead to.

According to The Times of India, as Pooja was walking down the road near her home, she was attacked by a stranger later identified as Vijay Kumar, a construction worker. According to the police officer who took charge of the case, Vijay Kumar lunged at Pooja and tried to rip off her shirt. Pooja was thrown to the ground, but the sudden attack did not take away her strength or presence of mind.

She got up immediately and started hitting her attacker fiercely and with full strength! Caught by surprise at the victim’s strength, Vijay started running away in panic.

But Pooja wouldn’t have her attacker get away so easily. She started chasing Vijay and soon, with the help of passersby, she caught him and handed him over to the police.

What Pooja did in a vulnerable situation is certainly worth applause. Women face danger in Indian streets and ideally, this situation should change, and women should feel safe anywhere they go. While that seems far, for now, we can take inspiration from the women who fought their attackers, confronted them and ensured they get justice.

This mother of two, for example, was followed by a stalker to her home. Even when she tried to drive him away, the stalker shamelessly hung around. So she took to social media to shame the man publicly. You can read the story here.

These girls, their presence of mind and their strength in trying situations can be an inspiration for us. We salute their bravery and their ability to fight off their attackers. More power to them!
