“Deep down, I had a feeling that I will top the exams, but I didn’t share it with anyone as I thought people will poke fun at me. I’m glad that my efforts have paid off.”
Taranpreet Kaur, a student of the Broadway Public School in Barnala district, Punjab is the state topper of the CBSE class 10 board exams. Having scored 99.4% (497 out of 500 marks), she has made her family and teachers extremely proud. Taranpreet also happens to be the third rank-holder in the All India category.
In a report published in Hindustan Times, Taranpreet says, “Deep down, I had a feeling that I will top the exams, but I didn’t share it with anyone as I thought people will poke fun at me. I’m glad that my efforts have paid off.”
Taranpreet’s father, Tarlochan Singh, is a farmer who owns 16 acres of land. Having studied until class 9 himself, he was determined to provide his daughter with a good education.

Speaking to YourStory, he says, “I had no idea what Taranpreet was studying, though I was always concerned she should get a good education. She is free to follow her dreams the way she likes.”
While many students attend various tuition classes to prepare for the board examinations, Taranpreet did all the studying by herself.
She found a lot of support in her school teachers and her aunt, Ramandeep Kaur.

Various reports suggest that Taranpreet is keen on appearing for the civil service examination and will begin preparations for it soon.
Another very inspiring story we brought to you was about Anu Kumari, mother of a 4-year-old, who is also the second rank holder in the UPSC examination. Anu felt that if she appeared for the civil service examination, she would be able to contribute to the development of society in a meaningful way.
You can read all about it here.
With many young and diligent students like Taranpreet wanting to appear for the UPSC examinations, one hopes that the country is in good hands.
