Thrissur Techies Develop App That Lets You Sell & Buy Surplus Homegrown Veggies!

We are slowly waking up to the fact that it is important to know what is on our plate and consequently, inside our mouth. With stories about crops being heavily contaminated with fertilisers and pesticides, more and more people are looking for alternative sources of food production that are organic and safe for consumption.

Meanwhile, many people have also begun to grow veggies in their backyards or even limited spaces within their homes, following the ‘grow what you eat and eat what you grow’ trend.

While it is indeed heartening to see this new wave of urban farmers across the country, not everyone is blessed with such opportunities. They are either apprehensive about farming or have little or no space to grow vegetables or fruits.

Coming to their rescue is a group of techies, who have designed two mobile apps that will connect those who harvest surplus produce from their gardens with those who wish to buy fresh vegetables and fruits within the city!

The folks behind the innovative app include Jeffin George, Bineesh Sundaran, Shirona Mohammed, Gilton Jose, Glemin George and Suvarna Babu, all of whom are employees of G-Agate Technologies, a tech firm based in Thrissur.

Split into two applications for sellers and buyers separately, the G-Store app is designed to make fresh and healthy homegrown food accessible to all! The developers hope that the app will pave the way for more people across the city to lead healthier lifestyles as well as help terrace farmers and kitchen gardeners earn good returns for their hard work.

Both sellers and customers have to download and register themselves in the apps that are available on both Android and iOS platforms. While the sellers have to feed details like the amount of produce, their location and contacts in the G-Store Seller app, the consumers can select what they want and look for sellers listed by the G-Store Buyer app.

Even if a product is not available in your vicinity, the app will show closest locations from where you can still purchase it.
