2 Brain Surgeries Couldn’t Stop This 17-Year-Old From Succeeding in ICSE Exam!

The month of May abounds with the exam results of many educational boards with celebrations galore for the achievers.

This year the results will be extra special for Debabandan Pattanik of Delhi Public School Megacity, Kolkatta. Despite having to undergo two brain surgeries three years ago, this young boy appeared for the exams and aced them.

17-year-old Debabandan was to appear for the examination last year, but due to his sudden illness, he was unable to. He was in class 8 when a brain lesion was discovered.

“Post operation, he could barely walk for six to seven months. He could not even hold a pen. From there, through sheer willpower, he summoned the courage to resume studies,” his father, Debajyoti Pattanik told The Telegraph. Mr Pattanik works in a multinational firm.

Debabandan’s teachers have played a crucial role in helping him cope with his academics. Special classes were arranged for him, and his teachers always ensured that they were available to clear his questions. The school also sought permission from the board to grant him extra time to complete the paper. All these interventions by the school helped Debabandan a great deal.

From being unable to hold a pen to successfully writing the exams, not to mention, clearing them, Debabandan has displayed true grit.
