What if we told you voting for the Karnataka elections could earn you anything from free coffee to free internet?
Well, as Saturday draws near and Bengalureans prep to ink their fingers, a city-based cyber cafe in Rajajinagar 2nd Stage, run by S Vishweswaraa Iyer is offering free internet to those who vote on May 12.
The owner of the cafe is also using discount options to encourage more people to vote, especially first-time voters.
Speaking to The Times of India, S Vishweswaraa Iyer says, “The main idea is to encourage youngsters to vote. I think 80% of them don’t vote because they don’t trust the candidate or party. I don’t support any political party but believe that we must be the change we want to see.”
The other discounts include photocopying a sheet at 25 paise as against the regular Re 1. This facility will be extended till the BBMP elections scheduled for 2020, added Iyer.
The cyber cafe isn’t the only one encouraging voters. Nisarga Grand Pure on Nrupathunga Road in Sampangiramanagar has decided to dish out free masala dosas to first-time voters. Other voters will be given free coffee. All they have to do is to show up with their inked fingers and voter ID cards.
Krishnaraj SP, who owns Nisarga Grand Pure, said: “I have often heard youngsters say that voting won’t bring about any change. I want to rekindle hope in them because they will shape our present and future. This incentive may motivate them to vote.”
Even the popular Vasudev Adiga’s is offering free coffee to voters, provided they order something from one of its 20 outlets.
“Coffee is the highest selling item at our branches. I want people to exercise their franchise and elect good representatives,” Bharat S, Head of Finance and Commission at Vasudev Adiga’s told TOI.

And while these options are tempting enough to encourage many youngsters to vote, we hope the only thing motivating you isn’t free coffee, dosas or internet.
