The Army officer observed the 2 dacoits entering the compartment.
A soldier’s bravery knows no bounds, and this has been proven time and again. There are several examples of how they always put service before self and manage to save civilians from unfortunate circumstances.
Who can forget the September 2010 incident, when Vishnu Shreshta, a 45-year-old Gorkha Rifles jawan, from the Army, took on a gang of 30 dacoits, armed with just a khukri, on the Maurya Express. He fought them bravely, till they overpowered him, and suffered grave injuries in the process.
In February this year, an RPF jawan in Mumbai, saved a boy from falling under a moving train and becoming yet another statistic.
A recent incident that occurred on 6 May 2018 gives us yet another stellar example of a soldier’s bravery.
Lieutenant Ashish of the Regiment of Artillery of the Army, was travelling in the Amritsar-bound Dadar Express, and it was around 3:00 a.m. when he observed two men boarding the 2AC compartment of the train.
As soon as the train made a brief halt at the Hazrat Nizamuddin station, the duo tried to rob a fellow passenger. As is characteristic of a soldier, Lieutenant Ashish, who was in the upper berth, wasted no time and jumped in to save his helpless co-passenger. He even received a knife wound to the hand in the process. However, his selfless act thwarted the robbery attempt, as the dacoits jumped out of the train.
These incidents show how a soldier will stand up against injustice and wrongdoing, whether or not in uniform. Kudos to Lt Ashish, and all the other soldiers of the Army, who risk their lives on a daily basis, for the service of the nation.
