The Indian government's recently-launched Swachh Bharat internship programme helps college students earns awards, incentives and UGC credits while cleaning villages.
On October 2, 2014, the Modi government launched India’s most extensive cleanliness drive—the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The flagship cleanliness campaign aims to clean the roads and infrastructure of India’s cities, towns and villages and make India open defecation free (ODF) by 2019. Now, to promote the mission further, the government plans to rope in college/university students and offer them a Swachh Bharat summer internship where they can work for the campaign.
PM Modi made this announcement in the 43rd edition of his monthly radio broadcast, Mann Ki Baat.
According to the official internship website, the internship aims to develop the skills and orientation of youth for sanitation related work, give them an opportunity to work for the campaign and integrate the youth in community development work in rural areas in the run-up to the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The 100 hours of Swachhata internship between May 1 and July 31, will be offered by the following ministries:
a) Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports
b) Ministry of Human Resource Development
