Skilling India’s GenNext: BMW Donates 365 Engines to Engg. Colleges for Training

The students of Anna University are fortunate. First, a few of them were privy to the plan BMW has in store for them, when they attended the event at the automotive giant’s Chennai plant. Secondly, the Dean was there along with a special guest – the Little Master himself – Sachin Tendulkar, who is also BMW’s brand ambassador.

This is all part of BMW’s Skill Next program, which is a unique technical skilling initiative under which the company will provide 365 BMW Engines and Transmissions to myriad engineering colleges and technical institutes across every state and Union Territory, nationwide.

According to the Financial Express, BMW India confirmed that the engines and transmissions would be delivered to campuses by the end of 2018. BMW also plans to enhance skills by providing 40 after-sales experts, who will conduct ‘Train the Trainer’ workshops at BMW dealerships in 20 cities.

Sachin Tendulkar interacted with the students at the factory, assembling an engine in the all-new BMW X3 at the assembly line, with the students. Sachin also gave a speech, mentioning that he could never have played cricket by reading books.

Rather, he had to be hands-on with the game. Similarly, this initiative by BMW will help students understand automotive technology through first-hand experience.

Universities and colleges across the length and breadth of India – Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Haryana and Chattisgarh, will be the first to benefit from BMW’s initiative. BMW’s engines and transmissions will help the students get hands-on training on technologies. BMW will provide these engines to institutes at no cost.

According to Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India, SKILL NEXT will promote the development of technical competencies in students, by enhancing their practical knowledge of advanced automotive technology. This will contribute by increasing the availability of skilled technical staff at automotive dealerships, rounded off the President in the Financial Express.

Students can expect the BMW TwinPower Turbo In-Line 4-cylinder diesel engine and BMW 9-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.
