Ever wondered what the engine blinking symbol in your car meant? Well, it can mean a whole lot of things and Archit’s OBDAS will tell you exactly what to do.
While many incredible ideas were shared at the recently-concluded Festival of Innovations (FOIN) in New Delhi, there was one that stood out, and consequently won the grand prize—the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award 2018.
Archit Agarwal, an engineering student of UPES, won this award under the ‘Most Innovative Product’ category for his revolutionary creation called ‘On-Board Diagnostic Data Analysis System—OBDAS’ which has been developed for the automobile sector and is being touted as the future of the industry.
So, what is OBDAS?
Ever wondered what the engine blinking symbol in your car meant? Well, it can mean a whole lot of things and Archit’s OBDAS will tell you exactly what to do.
OBDAS is based on data interpretation and diagnostics of a vehicle through an onboard diagnostic system. This plug-in technology will allow automobile and auto insurance companies to keep track of real-time data of your car.
The technology will enable automobile and auto insurance companies to track real-time data of a car from the dedicated embedded system which can also be used in system diagnostics and performance evaluation of the car.
This data will be communicated to reliable sources for varying purposes—from tracking the performance of a customers’ car to providing them on-time car maintenance. It also has an in-built anti-theft and surveillance functionality.
Additionally, in the case of an accident, the OBDAS system will send the location of the car to emergency services.
“To be at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and receive this prestigious award in the presence of our President for my technological innovation was an overwhelming experience for me. The competition was extremely challenging with close to 13,000 projects from over 500 colleges across India. OBDAS has many benefits including sending the location of the vehicle in case of an accident to emergency services that may prevent deaths due to vehicular accidents,” Archit said of his experience, to the Financial Express.
Kudos to Archit! His effort to make a low-cost universal solution for vehicles definitely has the potential to revolutionise the automobile industry.
