What Inspires Movies Like #Raid? Honest Men Like IT Officer Ravi Shankar!

We read about brave acts by police officers and our servicemen. We applaud and praise them. How often do we learn about the work carried out by officers in the Indian Revenue Service?

They are, after all, responsible for ensuring that our taxes are all in and accounted for.

Ravi Dutt Shankar is the man of the moment currently, whose work and service is being celebrated. He is an Intelligence Officer in the Directorate General of Goods & Services Tax Intelligence, who has been working relentlessly since 1992 to help bring to task those who evade taxes.

In his 26 years of service, Ravi has detected the evasion of Central Excise/Service Tax cases involving Duty/Tax of Rs 961.92 crore in 47 cases, of which Rs 99.44 crore were voluntarily deposited.

In a communication from his directorate, Shankar was told that his exemplary anti-evasion performance is a testimony to his acumen in detecting quality cases and his consistent exceptional performance makes him a worthy recipient of the Presidential Certificate of Appreciation for Specially Distinguished Record of Service, as reported by Times of India.

Acknowledging the service rendered by Ravi, he was felicitated by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on behalf of the President of India at an award ceremony held in Delhi.

Interestingly, enterprising revenue officers are all the rage right now. The new Ajay Devgn starrer movie Raid is also that ‘real life’ incidents involving the then Income Tax Commissioner of Lucknow, Sharda Prasad Pandey.
