With mounting rents and a severe space crunch in cities, co-working spaces are proving to be a big boon for many start-ups and independent professionals.
I spend most of my day writing. I do this from the confines of my house. I would be delighted to work from a space where I get to see and maybe even interact with others. What would be even better is if I could take my kids along and have them engaged during my work hours.
With mounting rents and a severe space crunch in cities, co-working spaces are proving to be a big boon for many start-ups and independent professionals. Like most other cities, Chennai also has many such spaces across the city.
With the summer holiday round the corner one of the things that parents are looking for are spaces where they can take their children and continue to work. The Book Office, housed on the premises of the ilovereadin’ Library at Adyar, is going to solve this very issue.
This co-working space is open to working parents, freelancers, entrepreneurs and anyone who likes to work in a room full of books. It also comes with high-speed internet, a printer and cups of coffee to go around. And yes, it is child-friendly.
“The Book Office is operated by The Kahanipuram Trust, a non-profit venture that seeks to promote initiatives revolving around children, books, and stories,” says Simran Chakraborty, event manager and curator, The Book Office as reported by Times of India.
The Book Office will be inaugurated at 5 pm on March 17. The event will include a library treasure hunt and an interactive improvised play based on the book, ‘A Silly Story of Bondapalli’. The event is open for children aged six to ten.
The co-working space will be open from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
The Book Office is located at First Floor, #9, Fourth Street, Venkateswara Nagar, Adyar.
Another co-working space based in Chennai called W2 workspace offers its clients concierge service, which women can avail for groceries, home-cooked meal takeaways and other sundry services.
W2 workspace also includes a yoga and fitness room for women to work out or take meditation breaks. The chairs are ergonomically designed, particular keeping in mind pregnant women and new mothers.
