New Suburban Trains to Speed up Bengaluru Techies’ Daily Commute to IT Hubs

If you are a resident of Baiyappanahalli then here’s some good news for you. Four new suburban train services will now connect the Baiyappanahalli Metro station to the technology suburbs of Bellandur and Electronic City. This move is likely to provide much relief to hordes of IT workers.
Earlier this week Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted announcing the eight new services in Bengaluru.
“A big relief to commuters between Baiyappanahalli-Whitefield & Hosur-Banaswadi, connecting IT hubs of the city to business areas.”
This new service will cut down the travel time by half. As of now, passengers travelling from Baiyappanahalli to Bellandur spend an average of an hour on the road. This new service will ensure that you reach your destination in 30 minutes.
The train (no 06571) will originate from Banaswadi at 9.50 am and terminate at Hosur at 11 am. The train will stop for a minute at stations such as Baiyappanahalli, Bellandur road halt station, Carmelaram, Heelalige, and Anekal road station.
It will return from Hosur at 11.15 am and reach Banaswadi at 12.25 pm. Another service (no 06573) will leave Banaswadi at 12.40pm and terminate at Hosur at 1.45pm. It leaves Hosur at 3.20pm and terminates at Banaswadi at 4.40pm.
“This is a great step from the Railways,” commuter rail activist Sanjeev Dyamannavar said. “It will help many more commuters to switch over to train services. Even those who reside in Sarjapur, Bellandur, and Anekal can easily reach the Baiyappanahalli metro station.” The Railways, he said, could extend these services from Banaswadi to Hebbal and reach more people, as reported in Economic Times.
In August last year, a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train – that will operate exclusively between Baiyappanahalli and Whitefield was launched to ease the crazy traffic that Bengaluru has come to become synonymous with.
This new connection not only shortened the commute time but also helped in easing the traffic situation. The ticket for the route is also only Rs 10. And if one wishes to avail quarterly passes, the fare can be cut short to Rs 6 per day.
