Railways on Recruitment Spree, Looking to Hire for 4000 More Posts!

The Indian Railways is on a hiring spree, looking for recruits across departments.

The Indian Railways is expanding operations, and to do so effectively, is opening up employment across a few verticals. Around 4000 vacancies are likely to be listed by the Indian Railways, including posts for Ticket Collectors and Goods Guards.

There was an announcement made that 90,000 jobs were open, under Group D and Assistant Loco Pilots, and Technicians. Earlier as well, as part of the Skill India initiative, the Railways was to train 30,000 apprentices. Read more here.

February 2018 again saw the Railways list 89,000 jobs for posts like Group C Level II like fitter, crane driver, blacksmith, and carpenter and Group C Level I (formerly Group D) posts like track maintainer, points man, helper, gateman etc. Learn more about this here.

The Railways has also been streamlining its recruitment process, as in November 2017, zonal heads had mentioned issues of being understaffed. Read here how the Railways wants to cut the time it takes to appoint someone from around 2 years to 6 months.

The Indian Railways wants to develop a particular freight corridor to enable better mobilisation of goods. For this better infrastructure is required. On 12th March, the Railways might release a notification, inviting candidates who are graduates or 12th pass, to apply for the 4000 jobs. Apart from those, around 2,000 more jobs for reservation clerks, booking clerks, inquiry clerks and pharmacists will be open as well.

Here are the list of posts and the required details.
3000 Ticket Collector Posts.
1,000 posts of Guards.

The minimum age required is 18, and the maximum age limit for applying is 29.

The Educational Qualifications required are:-
For Guards:-
For Guards: 10th + 12th from a recognized board/institution.
For Ticket Checkers: Graduate from a recognized university/institution.

Candidates will need to pass a written exam, which will have around 100 Multiple Choice Objective Type Questions. The areas tested will be General Knowledge, Language and Current Affairs. There are negative marks for wrong answers, and the exam will last an hour.

There will also be a PET (Physical Endurance Test) for those candidates applying for Goods Guard positions.

The pay scale of the selected candidates is expected to be around Rs 5,200 to Rs 20,200.
