Meet the pilot who bagged a 35,000 crore deal with the Maharashtra Govt to set up India’s first Aircraft manufacturing firm in the state.
You may remember Amol Yadav by the six-seater aircraft he manufactured on the terrace of his Charkop building, which gained widespread attention at the Make In India exhibition in Mumbai in February 2016.
Amol spent over six years and Rs 4 crore, after selling his house, to build the six-seater plan. The 10.8 feet high aircraft made of aluminium was put together under the guidance of retired Air Marshal Murali Sundaram, and an advisory panel of IIT-B professors. It is now parked at the airport, reports the Hindustan Times.
Amol’s manufactured aircraft for the exhibition even received the certificate of registration from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in 2017.
His long harboured dream of setting up an aircraft manufacturing company finally came true on Monday, when the Maharashtra government signed a Rs 35,000 crore pact with him at the Magnetic Maharashtra global investors summit in Bandra on Monday.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who graced the occasion when the MoU was signed has promised full support to the 42-year-old commercial pilot to start India’s first manufacturing facility to build indigenous 6-seater and 19-seater aircraft in Maharashtra.
This association between Amol Yadav and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will lead to the creation of over 10,000 jobs.
Speaking to the Press Trust of India, the 42-year-old senior commander with Jet Airways revealed, “I have to make planes. I have demonstrated the capabilities. Fadnavis wants the first plane-making factory in the country to be in Maharashtra. The 157-acre plot was identified in Palghar. The MIDC will provide us land and support facilities like roads.”
Amol will not only be responsible for build the aircraft at his factory, Thrust Aircraft Private Limited, but he will also help to set up more such manufacturing factories and overlook their working.
“This will be an aerospace hub to make planes,” he said.

The 35,000 crore investment, therefore, isn’t solely for Amol’s company but also the ancillaries which will be a part of the hub; he told PTI.
The plan of action includes building a prototype 19-seater plane and three more similar planes for production in the first phase. The estimated investment for this will be Rs 200 crore and will be spent in the next six months.
But the overall aim of utilising the total Rs 35,000 crore investment is to manufacture over 600 19-seater planes in the next 2-3 years and more than double that capacity to over 1,300 planes in the following years.
“We are planning for 1300 19-seater planes at present…We have already identified many potential investors,” Yadav said. The government will also extend the required help.
“Pratt & Whitney is supplying me the engines at present. The engine supplied to me is 30 years old and tested one,” he said.
