With Question to BCCI, Dravid Proved Yet Again Why He is The Perfect Role Model

Rahul Dravid, the coach of the World Cup winning Under-19 Indian cricket team, continues to win the hearts of fans with his sincere sense of selflessness.

Although delighted with his side’s tremendous victory in the recent edition of the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand, the cricket legend is reportedly unhappy about receiving a greater share of the BCCI’s cash rewards.

According to the Indian Express, Dravid has expressed his displeasure at the disparity between the cash prize he won versus his support staff and team.

In a press release issued soon after the final, the BCCI had announced a Rs 50 lakh reward for Dravid, Rs 20 lakh each to his support staff and Rs 30 lakh per player on the squad. The Under-19 coach has asked the board not to discriminate against other members of the coaching staff, and that everyone must be rewarded equally for what was a real team effort.

Dravid told the board that everyone involved, from the support staff to the players, played an equal part in the Under-19 team’s success in New Zealand. This is quintessential Dravid, who remains a consummate team man.

This facet of his personality, in fact, came to the fore moments after the side’s victory in the final, where he spoke of his embarrassment at being the centre of attention while praising the work done by his players and support staff.

“It’s a bit embarrassing at times because I tend to get a lot of attention and focus, but it is really about the support staff and the quality of people that we’ve had. I don’t want to mention names, but everyone in the support staff has put in a great effort. We do the best for the kids,” he said.

After suffering heartache in the last edition of the Under-19 World Cup, where India lost to the West Indies in the final, this time, Dravid had the pleasure of leading his colts into the sunset. It is hard to find anyone better than ‘The Wall’ to nurture the future of Indian cricket.
