Got an Innovation to Share With the World? Head to Mumbai’s Maker Mela

Entrepreneurs, young and old, are coming together with their innovations and fantastic ideas for Maker Mela, an exhibition which seeks to be a platform to showcase innovations from all over the globe.

An annual event, which is organised by Somaiya Vidyavihar, Maker Mela will be held in KJ Somaiya College of Engineering in Mumbai, from 11th to 13th January 2018.

There’s a unique angle to this exhibition of innovators. It has no restrictions on age, educational background or the type of innovations. The only clause is that your idea must be unique. The youngest participant, for instance, is a student of Class 5 student who has built a robot!

Maker Mela encourages experimentation, whether it is in the field of art, science, food, the technology of DIYs (Do-It-Yourself). It provides an excellent opportunity for new innovators to get connected with people and organisations who can take their unique ideas into the spotlight.

One such innovation being showcased in Maker Mela is Cilika, a portable digital microscope.

Samrat, a 28-year-old, has designed the microscope which has an optical system with magnifications of up to 1500X.

Cilika possesses all qualities of a conventional microscope and is also easy to carry. The magnified images will be displayed on a connected mobile phone or tablet. Not only does this digital display simplify observation, but will also allow direct storage and transferring of the images, which will make it a useful asset in rural areas.

For example, Cilika can help in the diagnosis of diseases since it allows the quick transfer of images, enabling hospitals or specialists to make a proper diagnosis, in a short time.

Another useful innovation being showcased is Evive, which is a palm-sized device to save your time, money and relieve the frustration of spending hours in electronic fault-finding.

Evive is an all-in-one prototyping laboratory catering to a wide range of hobby needs—efficient learning, easy building and quick debugging.

Evive has a visual interface and covers a range of products like an obstacle avoiding robot, a plant monitoring and watering system, and various games. “It simplifies building DIY projects in the field of robotics, electronics, internet of things (among others) while saving over 60% in terms of time and cost,” said Abhishek Sharma and Kunj Behari Beriwala, the team members.
