Travelling Alone? Hyderabad Police App Debuts ‘Track Me’ Feature for Your Safety

Launched by Hyderabad police last year, the HawkEye mobile application allows citizens to reach out to the police personnel directly to report about women safety travel details, emergencies, traffic violations, criminal information, good work and misconducts by officials, besides providing one the access to contact details of the task force.

To make city-bound travel for women safer, the officials have developed the ‘Women travel made safer’ provision in the app in such a way that the cops can now keep track of your position in case there is a deviation from your original route.

The original feature could allow a person only to share details of the travel. With this new add-on, not only can you choose if you want to be tracked by the police, but also make use of options like ‘help’ and ‘reached safely.’

As soon as the passenger hits the ‘track me’ button, the central command control centre in the police commissioner’s office will be notified with a pop up on the TV wall. Once the person enters the starting and ending point details, he or she will receive a notification for choosing one between ‘track me’ and ‘help’ options. If one selects the former option, the screen at the control centre will display the chosen route by the passenger.

“Any small deviation in the mentioned route will generate an alert to both the police and also the passenger. On reaching the destination, the passenger needs to press the last option ‘reached safely.’

If this does not happen, tracking will continue, and a deviation alert will be sent. Until the mobile phone stops functioning, the passenger’s location will be under the scanner, as the application is being developed to work even offline,” a police officer, who is part of the IT team, told The New Indian Express.

With the new provision of location sharing, the police officials at the control room will be able to alert and dispatch the nearest patrolling vehicles to the passenger and ensure that they reach their destination safely.
