Nine Years On, a Tribute to the NSG Commandos Who Saved Lives During 26/11 Attacks

Nine years ago today, Mumbai became a victim to one of the worst terrorist attacks in Indian history. The city was taken hostage for three days by 10 men who launched a series of coordinated attacks at several high profile spots. The horrific tragedy took away 166 lives, and injured 300 others.

As a tribute to the martyrs of the 26/11 Mumbai attack, photographer Pravin Talan released an exclusive photograph of National Security Guard (NSG) personnel, or often referred to as the Black Cats, securing the Taj Hotel.

The image is set against a stunning view of Mumbai in the early hours.

While scars of the deadly attacks are yet to heal, Pravin is optimistic that we have come a long way in our preparedness and response time to tackle any such future threats.

“This photograph is a salute to the heroes who defend us with their lives and are committed to thwart any attempt to shatter the peace and calmness of this glorious city,” Pravin told The Better India.

Remembering the attacks and taking a pledge to eliminate terror, President Ramnath Kovind wrote on Sunday, “On the ninth anniversary of the Mumbai terror attacks, we mourn with the families that lost their dear ones. And we recall with gratitude the security personnel who gave their lives in the battle against evil.”
