Soon You Can Book a Bicycle in Bengaluru, Just Like an App-Based Cab

As many have started opting for bicycles as commutes in order to cut down their carbon footprint, a bike-sharing startup would just be the next best thing.

While bikes-on-rent is already quite trending in China with many startups functioning at large, the concept is yet to sprout wings in India. However, one startup is prepping up to lend this service in Bengaluru in upcoming weeks and is an IoT (Internet of Things) enabled venture.

Co-founded by Amit Gupta, R.K Misra, Naveen Dachuri and Hemant Gupta, Yulu is revolutionary venture in India through which one can rent ‘dockless’ bicycles through the Yulu Bikes mobile application. Available on both iOS or Android platforms, the app allows one to book a bike just the way he or she books a cab on auto.

Implementing a QR code system, everything incorporates a digital modus operandi.

From locating the bike using GPS to scanning the QR code to unlock it, the venture is being touted as the ‘most advanced bike sharing solution’.

A rider will charged for every 30 minutes of use and at the end of the ride, he or she will be billed by Yulu, which can repaid through a digital wallet. Yulu aims to “de-congest urban traffic by providing a scalable, affordable, efficient and clean solution for the first mile, last mile and short distance commute.”

It is reported that the team is in talks with the local government to allocate dedicated lanes for bicycles as well safe parking spaces in the city.

With the sustainable travel options like bike-sharing making an entry in Bengaluru, it will be possible to curb one’s carbon footprint and consciously contribute towards making the city green again.
