This Delhi Graphic Designer’s Awesome Tips on Waste Management Will Make Your Day

For 38-year-old Pooja Dhingra, every action comes with its responsibilities and consequences. A conceptualiser and graphic designer from Delhi with 12 years of experience, she recently started thinking about how her skills could be put to good use to spread awareness. She eventually got a great idea.

“Cut the Crap” is Pooja’s venture in educating people about the consequences of waste mismanagement and suggests what measures we can take to minimise our footprints on the environment.

In the artwork, Pooja represents 26 simple methods to reduce, reuse and recycle waste with the 26 letters of the alphabet.

Pooja says that her primary inspiration for this project was the waste outside her housing colony and the waste pickers who lived in this trash. She saw that the pickers’ children would play with garbage simply because “They enjoy it.”

When Pooja stressed about hygiene, their parents merely laughed at it. Such incidents generated sympathy in Pooja for people who have to live in such conditions and moreover, anger against those who generated this amount of waste without considering segregation, reduction of waste or recycling.

Together, the sympathy and anger inspired Pooja to undertake this project.

Pooja says that her artwork is available for free online. “Just please don’t print it on paper,” she says because it beats the whole purpose of “Cut the Crap”.

The project is digitally available and is free to use by those who would like to spread awareness. Through this, she wants more people to think about the waste they generate every day. Pooja urges people to add at least two more habits from this project in their lives because even that will make a huge difference.

“We’re already facing the consequences of our actions. We need to act upon the waste we generate.” Pooja is also very enthusiastic about inculcating these values at school levels.

She hopes that this project will be taken up by someone to educate children in schools about cultivating their own food, waste management, recycling etc.
