Train journeys in India are not just about travelling and reaching the destination; they are different things to different people. For some, the journeys are a source of income, while for some, they are just another adventure.
Apart from this, what binds train travellers together are railway stations, and there are two railway stations in India that not only bind people but states too. Read on to find out more.
Bhawani Mandi railway station
Bhawani Mandi is a border town in Rajasthan, with a unique railway station — the northern part of the platform is in the Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh, and the southern part of it is in Jhalawar, which is a district in Rajasthan.
At this station, when you enter (or sit in the waiting room), you are in Rajasthan, but in order booking a train ticket, you will have to go to Madhya Pradesh. The division of Bhawani Mandi Railway Station and its periphery between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh is almost equally divided between the two states. While the entrance lies in Rajasthan, the booking window is in Madhya Pradesh. So, one has to cross Rajasthan border to get the tickets.
The station is directly connected to more than 350 other stations, and about 8000 to 10000 passengers commute through it every day.
Navapur Railway station
Well! Bhawani Mandi is not the only station which is an example of the bonding between two states. Navapur is taluka situated on the border of Maharashtra and Gujarat, and its railway station is also built in between two states — one half of it is in Maharashtra, and the other half is in Gujarat. A train that halts at Navapur Railway station is stationed half in Maharashtra and half in Gujarat. The ticket booking clerk sits in Maharashtra, while the passenger stands in Gujarat.
