Umang: The App That Let’s You Check Your PF, Book a Cylinder and Much More

The Umang app provides three services to subscribers of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). They can view their passbook; raise a claim for pension withdrawal, part withdrawal, and final settlement.

Umang: The App That Let’s You Check Your PF, Book a Cylinder and Much More

Pretty much everything today is available at the click of a button. So why should accessing your Provident Fund (PF) details, booking a gas cylinder refill, and accessing the National Pension System be far behind? Umang (Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance), an app that has been developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD), allows users to access all these services.

How to download the app?

The app is available on all operating systems and can also be downloaded from the official website here. The app offers multilingual support and is available in 13 languages — English, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, and Tamil to name a few.

A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to the mobile number registered with the app. The app then prompts the user to set a 4-digit numeric MPIN code to protect the account against unauthorised access. At this stage, users have to choose two security questions, which can be used to recover your account from the app if you lose access to your account or forget its PIN.

Once that is done, users will be prompted to fill out their profile information and will link their Aadhaar number. For now, linking the Aadhaar number is voluntary, and users can skip this step.

Employees Provident Fund
The Umang app provides three services to subscribers of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). They can view their passbook; raise a claim for pension withdrawal, part withdrawal, and final settlement.

They can also track the status of claims that have already submitted.

A look at the app

While linking of Aadhaar (UID) with the EPF account is not necessary to view the passbook, it is imperative for the remaining two services.

Gas cylinder refill

As of now Bharatgas, HP, and Indane subscribers can book a refill, place an order for a double cylinder connection, and keep track of their order history via this app.

However, it is imperative that the mobile number linked with the app is the same that the subscriber has registered with the agency.

Some of the other services that this app offers are Passport Seva wherein users can calculate the fee, locate a centre, receive advice on the documents needed to be submitted, and check appointment availability.

The National Pension System allows the subscribers to check current holdings, request for an e-mail transaction statement, check account details, change address, and also keep track of recent contributions made.

The Central Board of Secondary Education also features on the app. Subscribers can use the app to locate CBSE schools, view 10th and 12th results online and can even find examination centres.

The app is constantly being populated with services that might be beneficial. Do try using the app and tell us what features you like.
