Twenty-five years ago, a young musician in then Madras was given the opportunity to create music for Mani Ratnam’s movie Roja.
The young boy went on to create some everlasting magic. This young boy is none other than the maestro himself – A.R. Rahman.
Having created quite a stir in the south, he ventured into creating music for Hindi movies as well. In 1995 he composed music for a movie called Rangeela, and the rest, as they say, is history.
A two-time winner and five-time nominee of the Academy Award (Oscar), A. R. Rahman is popularly considered as the man who has redefined contemporary Indian music.
To commemorate twenty-five years of creating magic, Rahman will embark on a tour, which is aptly called – ‘A. R. Rahman ENCORE – The Concert’.

“It has been an incredible journey over these last 25 years. Sometimes when I ponder, I get goosebumps because the Almighty has been kind in giving me happiness that has only multiplied year after year. I’ve been immensely blessed to have the love and support of my fans, friends and family,” Rahman said in a statement as reported in The Indian Express.
Here are three reasons you ought to be there:
1. A.R. Rahman will be performing in India after a gap of almost a decade and a half
2. Watching this rockstar perform live is something that you must necessarily do, at least once in your lifetime, if not more
3. The concert will also see performances from several young and established singers who sing for Rahman
